INVEX Metal Enterprise Software Spotlight: Features for Value-Add Processing

Dallas, TX – INVEX, the cloud-based enterprise software, purpose-built for metal service centers and processors, features advanced value-add processing capabilities. Designed specifically for the metal industry, INVEX delivers comprehensive warehouse production and routing functionality that supports single and multi-step processing across multiple facilities and outside processors—while providing precise line-item profitability analysis.

INVEX is a leading cloud enterprise software platform built specifically for the metal industry and used by metal service centers and distributors. The software provides out-of-the-box functionality for companies performing single or multi-step processing. Processing can occur across multiple warehouses (plants) and may include outside processors. Value-add costs for processing, packaging, and freight are accumulated at each processing step and applied at the time of invoicing for more accurate line-item profitability.

Route

The backbone of the INVEX fulfillment cycle is the Order Item Process Routing. This may include a simple pick process to fulfill an as-is order or multiple processes executed across several warehouses and outside processors.

For example, a plate cutting order may require plasma cutting, bending, and drilling—each with its own corresponding start date. A flat rolled sheet order may require slitting, cut-to-length, and shearing. For service centers performing light fabrication and assemblies, multiple picked or processed components can be welded into a finished fabricated part.

Automatic Transfer Orders

In some cases, process routes require transfers to outside processors or other company warehouses. A key benefit of INVEX routing is that all transfer requirements are automatically generated. The shipping department can view all transfer requirements online and plan these transfers onto a Transport.

Tightly Integrated Outside Processing

INVEX does not differentiate between internal and external (outside) processing, making outside processing fully integrated within the order fulfillment cycle and flexible to manage. Routes may include single or multiple outside processing steps. Transfer costs to and from outside processors are included in the overall value-add costing.

Last Minute Routing Changes

The ability to quickly and easily reassign a job to another sister warehouse or outside processor enables companies to take advantage of processing synergies across their organization, without introducing complicated workflows that reduce overall productivity.

Ad-Hoc Jobs

INVEX provides the ability to create ad-hoc jobs in cases where some or all material requires rework. For example, certain plate- cut parts may need flattening. Once reworked, the material is automatically directed back into the appropriate step in the original process route.

Inspection & Lab Steps

The process route may also include inspection or lab steps. Inspection results can be entered online, and for lab steps, INVEX provides a Coupon Application to record mechanical testing results.

Ready-to-Ship Validations

Various out-of-the-box configurations in INVEX ensure finished goods are ready to ship and meet customer requirements. These requirements could include product specific, metal specification specific, mechanical and chemical results, or foreign and domestic requirements. INVEX also provides several APIs that allow customers to perform their own ready-to-ship validations.

Processing Specific Features

INVEX also provides features specific to the processes the metal company may also perform.

This includes:

•  Saw cutting – nesting an order and handling the trim and end cut for sawing

•  Plate cutting – handling the various cut shapes such as circles, rings, etc.

•  Packaging – ability to package multiple finished goods into a box or skid for shipping

•  Slitting – the arbor layout for slitting and OD breaks

•  Cut-to-length – consume multiple coils on a job that are butt welded to produce sheet

•  Tube production – handles the consumption of slit coil to produce tubing

Summary

As metal service centers continue moving further into value-added processing, the need for a purpose-built metal ERP system becomes increasingly critical. INVEX delivers the routing depth, cross-plant flexibility, and metal-specific production features required to manage everything from simple processing to complex multi-step manufacturing environments. By tightly integrating operations, costing, and fulfillment, INVEX empowers metal companies to expand services while maintaining control, visibility, and profitability.
